We are excited to announce our latest research project, which seeks to explore what spiritual people are seeking from their practices, the benefits they experience, and the activities they engage in daily.

In a time when more people are defining their spirituality outside of traditional religious frameworks, this study aims to better understand the ways in which individuals practice their spirituality, who they practice with, and the impact these practices have on their lives.

Research Questions

Our study is designed around three core questions:

  1. What are spiritual people seeking from their practice?

  2. What benefits—emotional, mental, physical, or social—do spiritual people experience from their practices?

  3. What day-to-day activities are spiritual people engaging in, and how are these related to the goals they are seeking?

The Three Stages of Research

We have structured the project into three stages to gain a comprehensive understanding of spiritual practices and their impact:

  1. Stage One: Free-List Interviews. In the first stage, participants will engage in a free-list interview to share their thoughts on the benefits they experience from their spiritual practices. Follow-up questions will further explore these insights, helping us create a detailed list of the key benefits spiritual people seek, such as inner peace, personal growth, or a sense of community. We’ll also begin to explore what daily activities people associate with their spiritual journey.

  2. Stage Two: 7-Day Spiritual Activities Diary In this stage, participants will complete a 7-day spiritual activities diary. Each evening, participants will fill out a short survey, tracking the spiritual activities they engaged in that day—whether that’s meditation, prayer, yoga, mindfulness, or communal rituals. This will help us capture daily patterns and give insight into how people’s practices align with the benefits they’re seeking.

We are currently seeking participants for this stage of the study! If you’re interested, keep reading for more details on how to participate.

  3. Stage Three: Semi-Structured Interview on Spiritual SeekingThe final stage of the study will involve a semi-structured interview where we will explore participants’ personal spiritual seeking journeys, as well as their overall life satisfaction. This interview will also dive deeper into the benefits identified in Stage One, helping us understand which are most significant to participants and why. This will allow us to better link spiritual practices to the specific benefits people experience over time.

Call for Participants: Join Stage Two of the Study!

We are now looking for participants to take part in Stage Two of this study, which involves completing a 7-day spiritual activities diary. If you are someone who regularly engages in spiritual practices and would like to contribute to this research, we’d love to hear from you!

By participating, you will help us gain a better understanding of the relationship between spiritual practices, their daily implementation, and their impact on personal well-being. Your input will contribute to the development of valuable insights into how spirituality is practiced today.
